New England Fall foliage trip 2016 Part 2

On the way back from Acadia, we did some back road cruising.
Found some cool light houses and other awesome sights.

Never been in a lighthouse.........until now.

I always wondered about the light filament.  This one was the original crystal that was built back in the 1800's.

It was retrofitted to accept the later styled, electric filament.

I have way too many pics.  Part 3 coming up soon.

New England Fall foliage trip 2016 Part 1

So, it's been a while since we have posted.

We decided to head up to the NE to try and catch the fall foliage.  This was gonna take some serious windshield time.  Everything is at least 3 days away from Oklahoma, so we just had to deal with it.
We took off a couple weeks from work and ventured out with the Avalair in tow.

The goal is to hit 3 National parks along with Niagara Falls, a few lighthouses and the Atlantic coast.  I won't bore you with the details of the time in transit.  I'll just hit the highlights.

Our first National Park was in Ohio.  Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  We are trying to hit all the National Parks in the CONUS that we can drag the Avalair to.  We have been collecting the sticker for that park and putting it on the bumper of the trailer.  It's been sort of an obsession.

I was a little disappointed with this park.  I don't know what I was expecting, but this wasn't it. It was nice, but very little info.  The visitor center was small and had 2 rangers, a few brochures and some souvenirs.  we actually got more information from the owner of the local hiking shop across the street.  It's more of a trailhead.  If you are a hiker or a biker, this would be a good destination.
They had a really cool train that was owned by a private company, but apparently they sold out all the seats for the weekend we were there.  Oh and they are very touchy about you being on the property if you are just wanting to take pics etc.  The RR Nazi ran us off.

Cool old gas station, turned into art gallery in downtown.
We spent about an hour here and we left.  Maybe there was more, somewhere else, but we didn't have time to search for it.
We set the gps for back roads only, found some cool towns.  This downtown is in rural NY.

Buffalo, NY.

A few shots of Niagara Falls.

Everyone getting suited up in their raincoats for the boat ride.

The illumination after dark.

After we left NY, we headed over to Vermont.  I didn't take very many pics, but I did find a really cool little campground.  Actually, Mama Root found it and I was beginning to worry.  The GPS had us going down all kinds of pig trails (that's back roads for you city folk)  I kept telling my wife that we were gonna end up in some hippie's yard with an extension cord.  The owner would have dread locks, wearing a shirt made out of organic seaweed, sporting the latest in Birkenstock sandals.
All of a sudden we rolled up on this place and I was pleasantly surprised.  If I would have known this place was so cool, I would have stayed another night.

Pine Hollow Campground in Pownal, Vermont.
It was quiet, clean, well kept.  Basically, it was a park.

The spots are nice and level, all are shaded.

Grand total, maybe 20 spaces.

The whole park is shaped in a circle around the pond.

This campground gets the 5 Bubba rating!!!!
We found our first covered bridge in Brattleboro, Vermont.  It was right in the middle of town.

The next stop was Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. (pronounced Bah Habbah, Meen)
We love doing the National Parks.  This one is the farthest away from us, so we figured we would get it out of the way.  We are working our way west.

 Cadillac Mountain
Plenty of photo ops for those who want to take pics.

I have so many pics to post.  I better break this out into multiple posts.
